Photo, video and live streaming for a Taiwan year-end party (weiya)

When are year-end parties in Taiwan?

Weiya (尾牙) traditionally falls on the 16th day of the 12th lunar month, the last day of the year when merchants made offerings and fed their workers. Today most companies pick a weeknight in the weeks before Lunar New Year. Parties held after the holiday are called chunjiu (春酒), or spring banquets.

Lunar New Year’s Eve 2027 is February 5, earlier than usual. Hotel groups say inquiries started months ahead of the normal July-August window, and one had already booked more than 100 year-end parties by April 2026. Venues fill early, and so do photo and video crews.

How much does year-end party photo and video cost in Taipei?

Event photographers in Taipei charge roughly NT$8,000-14,000 for a half day, according to PRO360’s price survey, and year-end parties usually fall into that half-day bracket. At the top end, one Taipei streaming studio lists NT$150,000-400,000 for large annual parties streamed with multiple cameras, live subtitles and several platforms.

Our usual year-end packages (NT$, before 5% tax):

A common mix is photographer + one-camera recording + highlight reel: NT$31,000-39,000. If time on site, including setup, runs past 4 hours, switch to a full-day package. See pricing for everything, and short video production cost if social clips are the main goal.

Year-end party shot list

Photos are what everyone wants to see the next morning. Give this list to your photographer and add your own company traditions:

  1. Arrival: sign-in wall, welcome, team photos.
  2. CEO or chairman speech: close-ups and wide shots, plus audience reactions.
  3. Awards: every winner on stage shaking hands with the presenter. Send the winner list and order in advance.
  4. Lucky draw (抽獎): each winning moment, and each winner holding the prize next to the boss. Don’t miss the grand prize or the boss’s surprise cash top-up.
  5. Staff performances: at least one wide stage shot and a few close-ups per act.
  6. Table toasts: managers going table to table. This is the liveliest part and the easiest to miss.
  7. Group photo: early in the night, before people leave.

A typical weiya run of show

17:30Arrival, seatingSign-in wall, team photos
18:30Opening, executive speechSpeech close-ups, wide room
18:45Dinner, first lucky drawWinner reactions

For recording, take audio from the venue’s mixer so the emcee and speeches are clear. Loud performance music will distort a camera’s own microphone.

Live streaming a year-end party to remote staff

When you have branch offices, overseas staff or shift workers, a stream lets everyone see the speeches and the draw. The setup is like any event live stream, with a few weiya-specific points:

  • Use an unlisted link or an internal platform. Party content usually isn’t for the public.
  • Mind the music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt it. If performances use pop songs, stream on an internal platform or skip the live feed for that segment.
  • Feed the lucky draw software into the stream. Remote staff can’t read names off a filmed projector screen.
  • Don’t rely on hotel guest Wi-Fi. Every stream we run uses a wired line plus a 5G backup, and we record locally as well.

Can we post something the same night?

Posting on the night gets the most engagement. A practical plan:

  1. During the party, the photographer picks 5-10 photos and sends them to your social media lead.
  2. Order the highlight reel as a 48-hour rush (+20%).
  3. Standard delivery: photos in 3 working days, video in 5.

If you need an edited video shown or posted on the night itself, tell us when you book and we will quote it separately.

When should we book a year-end party photographer?

Parties cluster on weeknights in the few weeks before Lunar New Year, so everyone competes for the same crews.

WhenWhat to do
October-NovemberOnce the venue and date are set, request a quote. Confirm headcount and whether to stream.
DecemberSend the run of show, award list and performance order
1 week beforeConfirm load-in time, sound contact and stream link
Party dayCrew arrives 1.5-2 hours before doors
AfterPhotos in 3 working days, video in 5

With an early Lunar New Year in 2027, January evenings will be tight. Aim to confirm by the end of November.

Common mistakes

  • Not giving the photographer the award and draw lists, so the grand prize gets missed.
  • Leaving the group photo to the end, when half the room has gone.
  • Streaming over hotel Wi-Fi and losing the connection during the draw.
  • Booking late and taking whatever slot is left.

Common questions

What is a weiya?

Weiya (尾牙) is the company year-end banquet held in Taiwan before Lunar New Year, with speeches, awards, a lucky draw and staff performances. A party held after the new year is called chunjiu (春酒).

Do we need video, or is a photographer enough?

A photographer covers internal records and social posts. Add recording or a live stream if you want a yearly recap film, full performances, or a way for remote staff to watch.

How fast do we get the photos?

Edited photos within 3 working days and edited video within 5. A 48-hour rush is available for 20% extra.

Can remote staff join the lucky draw?

Yes. Feed the draw software straight into the live stream so remote staff can read the names, rather than filming the projector screen.

Do you cover parties outside Taipei?

Our standard area is Taipei and New Taipei. Events elsewhere are quoted separately, including travel.
